Here's a blast from the past. It fits with the way I'm feeling these days so I thought I'd give it a boost back to the top for a couple of days.

Ain't "capitalism" grand?

OK, OK, so it isn't really capitalism in the sense of somebody earning money through good old fashioned business acumen and hard work. It would more properly be termed fraud -- bare-naked, unadulterated, porcine graft on an enormous scale. It's the financial equivalent of one of those animal factories leaching great toxic lakes of crap into the water we drink. (Ha, and meat eaters have the gall to give me a hard time for smoking! Ignorami... at least I'm aware of the danger of what I'm doing, and the damage I'm doing is primarily to myself.)

Legalize Marijuana Obama!

Will Obama have the political courage to change our stupid drug laws?

Let's hope so.

legalize weed, obama! Now that the election is safely won for the good guys (well, at least the not-as-bad guys -- but let's be optimistic for now), I will admit it: One of the reasons I supported Obama was that I thought he might be persuaded to lead America toward a sane drug policy, including the full legalization and prudent regulation of marijuana.

Stock Picks for Economic and Financial Collapse

People ask me all the time, "Charlie, what are some good stocks to buy in this age of economic collapse?"

As I have been so incredibly prescient in my financial and economic predictions, it would ethically repugnant for me to withhold advice on the long-term opportunities that will soon be available in our glorious free markets. Bear in mind that I am not a certified expert of any kind, just a dude who is more often than not (by no means always) right. If you take this advice and lose money, it's on you; do your own research. The following is just one opinion.

True Cost of Bailout

[Update: Now it seems that the bailouts (TARP and others) might cost anywhere from $2 trillion to $5 trillion, as if $700 billion weren't obscene enough. When can we just admit that we're bankrupt?]

$700 billion-plus of your money is going to Wall Street to bail out the derivatives traders.  Hooray.  I feel safer already.)

TARP applied a big Band-Aid to a wound that requires aggressive surgery was applied today. First of all, the U.S. government can't raise or print that much money, but who cares? The effect on the Treasuries market will be devastating [Update 1-5-2009: Dump 'em if ya' got 'em... you've been warned] Who's going to buy $700 billion (OK, it's "only" $250 billion up-front) more of increasingly shaky looking U.S. debt? Second, even if the market is able to absorb that many newly borrowed dollars, the effect will be to diminish the strength of the dollar significantly. Third, think of all the other things that money used to buy.

U.S. Bankrupt - Deal With It

The prognosticators and pundits studiously avoid two words when discussing the financial meltdown: The "b" word and the "n" word. I'll tread where they dare not: The United States of America is bankrupt and will have to nationalize a good deal of its financial infrastructure, at least temporarily.

Bailout: Quid no Quo? Bullshit!

Bailouts -- love 'em or hate 'em, one thing is always true: Somebody gets bailed out and somebody else does the bailing. It might be the fortunate bailing out the poor, or it might be the other way around. With TARP, it was the other way around.

Barack Obama didn't need any help from me in writing his résumé, but I'd like to think that my version of it swayed a few votes his way. I'm really proud of this.

Message to the future: Sorry about the mess. This song is quite beautiful, and it's engineered to what you might call "commercial standards" which is kind of a good thing, I guess, although I prefer experimenting.

Lyrical tweaking needed in the second verse, and the third verse was freestyled.

Nobody will hear it in the future if nobody hears it now, so you kind of have to disregard the comment at the end. Enjoy.

Hello, Hip-Hop?... Yeah, Rock 'n' Roll called... he says he wants his attitude back.

This was the very first recording of this song. There will be others, oh yes. Toyed with the idea of adding a wailing guitar solo (you'll know where) but decided to keep it pure. Also did another mixdown that sounds much cleaner (EQ-ed to accentuate vocals, no fancy panning or echoing or anything like that) than this one, but I like this one.

Turn this shit up if you know what's good for you.
